Romania’s Humanitarian Aid Mission to Lebanon: A Gesture of Solidarity and Support

Romania has stepped up to join the European community in providing crucial humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Lebanon, which is currently grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis.

The aid package, sourced from the national state reserves, includes essential supplies such as food, tents, and shelter items like sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, and bedding.

To facilitate the swift delivery of aid, two military aircraft, namely a C-130 Hercules and a Spartan C-27J, were deployed for this mission. These aircraft took off on the morning of April 15 from Base 90, carrying the much-needed supplies.

Authorities have outlined that the aid will initially land in Amman, Jordan, following which it will be transported to Beirut as part of a larger multinational humanitarian convoy aimed at reaching those in need efficiently.

The decision to offer this support was taken by the National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU), under the leadership of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. This initiative came in response to a specific request directed to Romania through the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

It is important to note that the coordination of this operation is being handled at the European level, with the European Civil Protection covering 75% of the transportation costs, as highlighted in the official press release.
