Mario Iorgulescu’s Appeal Rejected: Final Sentence of 8 Years and 8 Months Upheld by Bucharest Court of Appeal
The Bucharest Court of Appeal made a definitive ruling on Thursday, May 21, 2026, by dismissing the appeals lodged by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Tribunal and Mario Iorgulescu in connection with the tragic accident that took place in 2019.
The court upheld the original verdict of 8 years and 8 months in prison, a result of merging a 7-year term for manslaughter with two 2-year sentences for driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances, as well as an additional 3-year term for complicity in illegal deprivation of liberty, a conviction stemming from a separate case.
This decision follows a directive from the High Court of Cassation and Justice to reexamine the appeals solely concerning the determination of the punishment related to the offense of driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
Furthermore, the Court affirmed the supplementary penalties, which include a prohibition on operating motor vehicles on public roads for a period of 5 years following the completion of the prison term. The ruling is now irrevocable.
