Breakthrough Therapy Introduced for Stroke Survivors
Exciting developments have emerged from the Neurology Department of Galați County Hospital, where cutting-edge recovery programs are now being implemented for patients who have experienced cerebrovascular accidents. Spearheaded by the Galați County Council’s acquisition of a transcranial magnetic stimulation device under the ‘The Brain is a Priority’ initiative, this innovative approach marks a significant advancement in stroke rehabilitation.
The inaugural recipient of this groundbreaking therapy is a female patient grappling with aphasia, a post-stroke speech disorder. Leveraging the rTMS device, which harnesses magnetic fields to stimulate neuronal activity, this novel treatment method aims to restore functions impaired by strokes, including motor skills, speech, and cognitive capabilities.
Notably, the benefits of rTMS therapy extend beyond stroke survivors, offering promise to individuals with conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, severe migraines, and various neurological disorders. Treatment plans typically comprise 5 to 20 sessions, tailored to each patient’s needs.
Costel Fotea, President of the Galați County Council, revealed plans for Galati County Hospital to utilize rTMS technology for research purposes. Through clinical studies, medical professionals aim to advance scientific knowledge and enhance treatment modalities, paving the way for future breakthroughs in neurological care.
