Nicușor Dan joins President Erdoğan at Naval Flag Hoisting Ceremony in Istanbul
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, will participate in a significant event alongside the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The ceremony, scheduled to commence at 2:00 p.m. in Istanbul, will mark the hoisting of the flag on the HISAR-class ship ‘Rear Admiral August Roman,’ according to the Presidential Administration.
This pivotal ceremony signifies the official entry of the ‘Rear Admiral August Roman’ ship into operational service within the Romanian Naval Forces. Following this event, arrangements will be made for the ship’s deployment to Romania. Constructed in Turkey, this new corvette is poised to bolster Romania’s surveillance and response capabilities, thereby contributing to the enhancement of collective security in the Black Sea region.
The ‘Rear Admiral August Roman’ corvette is strategically designed to engage in combat across diverse naval environments, encompassing surface, anti-air, and anti-submarine operations. Its operational scope includes missions such as thwarting enemy actions, safeguarding critical infrastructure and friendly forces, and securing maritime communications.
Moreover, during his visit to Istanbul, Nicușor Dan is scheduled to engage in discussions with President Erdoğan on various topics. These discussions will revolve around the priorities of the bilateral Strategic Partnership, regional security concerns, and preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, scheduled for July 7-8.
