Successful Modernization of 19 CFR Călători Locomotives

The modernization project for 19 powerful 5,100 kW locomotives belonging to CFR Călători, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), is progressing at an accelerated pace, set to be completed ahead of schedule. This significant development was announced by the Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban, who revealed that locomotives numbered 16 and 17 will be delivered by Softronic next week, with the final two expected to be ready by the conclusion of May.

These modernized locomotives have already showcased impressive technical performance and a remarkable level of reliability during their operational use. The project’s financing through the PNRR highlights a positive step towards enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of Romania’s railway infrastructure.

In response to these advancements, Minister Ciprian Șerban expressed his satisfaction, stating, ‘Good news for CFR Călători. The modernization contract for the 19 locomotives, each with a power of 5,100 kW and supported by PNRR funding, is on track to be finalized ahead of the initial schedule. Softronic’s prompt delivery of locomotives 16 and 17 next week will pave the way for the completion of the entire project by the end of May. The successful modernization and deployment of these locomotives underscore their robust technical capabilities and operational reliability.
